Why app passwords
Google often blocks “less secure” logins. An app password is a 16-character code that lets Contractor Leads SMTP send without storing your real Gmail password.
Steps in Google
Do this on the Google account you will send from:
- Turn on 2-Step Verification for the account
- Open Google Account → Security → App passwords
- Create a mail app password; copy the 16 characters
- Paste into Setup → Email & SMTP as the SMTP password
- Use your full Gmail address as username
- Save and click Test connection
Common Gmail failures
Wrong password type (normal password instead of app password), 2FA not enabled, copied password with spaces, or Google temporary lock after too many failed attempts. Wait, regenerate app password, retest.

Warm up with small volume. Sudden 100+ cold emails from a brand-new mailbox get filtered. Use contractor-specific subjects and keep Day 1 short.
